NYRDRC Dissertation FEllowship Application

The New York Retirement and Disability Research Center (NYRDRC), supported by the Social Security Administration (SSA), is offering fellowships to doctoral students conducting independent research as part of their dissertation on the health, labor, and other public policy aspects of retirement and disability. 

Fellows will work under the guidance of their dissertation advisor. Selection will be based on the policy relevance of the proposed research and its potential to contribute significantly to the understanding of retirement and/or disability. 

Fellowship Details: 

  • Fellowship stipend of $35,000 

  • Requirements: Submit a final paper within one year of the fellowship award date; recipients will be required to submit quarterly progress reports and may be required to present their work at the RDRC Annual Conference in Washington DC. Recipients are expected to attend various NY RDRC seminars or other events (virtually or in-person) during the award period. 

  • Notification of award by May 2025 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Full-time PhD candidate at a North American university that has completed all coursework and examinations or qualifications to be considered A.B.D. 

  • Research topic must be directly relevant to retirement and/or disability 

  • Recommendation from the dissertation supervisor

Applicants cannot receive other federal funding concurrently with this fellowship. Please contact the NYRDRC if you have a potential conflict.
